Literably is a growing education technology company that provides literacy assessment software to K8 schools. On Literably, students complete authentic tasks (e.g. reading aloud) to demonstrate their literacy skills, and Literably generates insights to drive critical instructional decisions for young readers. Literably’s approach saves teachers and administrators enormous amounts of time relative to competitor solutions that are mostly pen and paper. We currently serve hundreds of thousands of students across the country, and our customers include several of America’s largest school districts.
About the role:
We are looking for Literably’s VP Sales (and second sales hire) to report directly to our CEO. To start, you will be leading a two-person sales team, so you must be excited to get your hands dirty and make things happen. Initially, you will likely nurture and close large accounts yourself, while supporting a junior salesperson managing smaller accounts. You will set strategy and tactics, plan and execute sales activities, manage the sales stack (Salesforce and HubSpot), and report on sales performance. As the company grows, you will build out a sales team. Note: If you’re an exceptional candidate earlier in your career, we are also open to hiring a Director of Sales with the potential to grow to VP.
Strategy: Intelligently prioritize activities based on expected ROI.
Process: Iterate on sales process, materials, and tactics to achieve growth milestones.
Coaching: Coach a junior salesperson to nurture and close deals.
Reporting: Measure and clearly report on sales performance.
Sales: Build relationships with large accounts and nurture them to close.
Sales Tech Stack: Manage and improve Literably’s sales stack.
Done It Before: Experience building a successful early-stage sales organization, ideally selling K5 solutions to Curriculum and Instruction leaders at U.S. school districts.
Full Cycle: Experience sourcing leads, qualifying leads, building funnel, managing accounts, negotiating terms, and closing.
Metrics-Oriented: Comfortable building, maintaining, and forecasting an accurate sales pipeline, and using data to drive decision-making. You know your pipeline efficiency from top-of-funnel to close.
Tech-Savvy: Fluent with technology, including conducting sales conversations via Zoom and efficiently managing the sales stack (i.e. Salesforce).
Hands-On and Budget-Efficient: Willing and able to do the work yourself until growth justifies headcount. Willing and able to work effectively without a huge budget.
Clear Communicator, Organized, Detail-Oriented, and Productive: You speak and write clearly and articulately. You work efficiently and effectively towards identified priorities.
Proactive, Persistent, Process-Oriented Problem-Solver: You proactively identify and solve problems with individual deals and with the overall sales process. You enjoy developing and refining strong, repeatable processes.
Good Attitude: You have a positive, friendly, persistent, and energetic attitude. You work well with others, and you are not easily discouraged.
Strong Leader: Experience hiring and managing amazing sales people. Comfortable owning and leading a sales function.
Remote-Friendly: Literably is a remote company. We have employees in California, New York, Colorado, Texas, and Alabama. You will need the ability to work productively in a remote environment. You can live and work from anywhere. California would be ideal, but it is not required.
Open to Travel: You are open to travel to meet important prospects in-person and to attend relevant conferences.
Networked: Ideally, you have strong pre-existing relationships with many potential Literably buyers (Curriculum and Instruction leaders at large U.S. school districts), especially in California.
